The municipality of Ingenio is hosting the 2026 Gran Canaria GWA Wingfoil World Cup this week, bringing together over 120 athletes from 13 different countries at El Burrero beach.

The competition, taking place from July 20 to 25, kicked off with the Canary Islands Open Wingfoil Slalom Cup. This event serves as a prelude to the FreeFly-Slalom and Surf-Freestyle disciplines, which will test the technical skills of the participants in challenging wind conditions.
The event stands out for its high female participation, accounting for 45% of total registrations. Athletes are facing a natural environment characterized by winds exceeding 35 knots and waves reaching up to 1.9 meters, factors requiring significant adaptability and technical precision.
The event is organized by Club Deportivo Canakite Experiences, Club Náutico El Burrero, and the Ingenio City Council. In addition to the competition, parallel activities such as environmental talks, beach clean-ups, and maritime safety conferences have been scheduled.
