The Ingenio City Council has suspended its regulated parking service, known as the blue zone, after confirming that the managing company had been operating without a contract since 2006, a situation described as 'irregular' by local authorities.

The suspension of the blue zone service in Ingenio occurred after the municipal government, upon taking office in 2023, requested information from the company regarding its income and number of employees. Due to a lack of transparency and the anomalous contractual situation, the matter has been taken to court.

"We had the courage to put the house in order, which was in a certain state, and also to regularize things for the residents."

The irregular situation dates back to an original contract from 2002 that ended in 2006 without any extension. Since then, the company continued to provide the service and collect fees. The municipal leadership has stated its unawareness of the whereabouts of the funds collected over nearly two decades.

"I don't know where the money is."

The suspension has created parking difficulties in the municipality, particularly affecting local businesses. Despite the challenges, the municipal leadership has reaffirmed its commitment to legally reactivate the service once the legal proceedings are concluded.
These statements were made within the framework of the 19th Seminar on Sustainable Regions, an event focused on awareness and learning about sustainability. The leadership of the commonwealth highlighted progress in waste management, with a 5% increase in packaging collection and a 15% increase in paper and cardboard during the first quarter. Furthermore, the number of organic waste containers is expected to double with the installation of 321 new units.
Regret was also expressed regarding the delay in implementing container return systems in Spain, comparing it to previous experiences in other countries. A call was made for citizen participation in the seminar, emphasizing the importance of awareness to address everyday problems such as the improper disposal of wet wipes, which causes blockages in drainage systems.
