The Avenida de Canarias and the Plaza de Los Algodoneros in Vecindario transformed this Tuesday into a large showcase for over twenty NGOs, foundations, collectives, and municipal services during the 1st Social Entities Fair, 'Santa Lucía Te Cuida'. The event aims to bring the social and community work carried out in the municipality closer to its citizens.
Under the slogan 'Santa Lucía Te Cuida: care is built in community', the fair featured the participation of organizations such as Cruz Roja (Red Cross), ECCA Social, the Asociación Bientratar (Well-treating Association), the Asociación Te Acompañamos (We Accompany You Association), the Fundación Canaria para las Personas con Sordera (Canary Foundation for Deaf People), and the Social Innovation Laboratory of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Municipal programs like Punto J (Youth Point), Puntos Violetas (Violet Points), and initiatives for preventing unwanted loneliness among adolescents were also present.
The opening day included musical and entertainment performances in the Plaza de Los Algodoneros, with a juggler welcoming attendees. Subsequently, the mayor of Santa Lucía de Tirajana, Francisco García, and the Councilor for Social and Community Care, Saúl Goyes, toured the various stands to learn firsthand about the projects.
“"An opportunity for citizens to directly learn about the important work that NGOs carry out in the municipality, work that is often done by volunteers with enormous social commitment."
Francisco García highlighted the fair's importance in showcasing the work of NGOs and the commitment of volunteers, as well as the involvement of municipal departments such as Social Services, Public Health, Equality, and Youth. For his part, Saúl Goyes acknowledged the daily efforts of social entities and volunteers, emphasizing that the fair makes visible the work that improves citizens' quality of life.
The fair's program runs throughout the day. In the morning, students from various educational centers participated in guided tours, workshops, and awareness activities. In the afternoon, the event opened to the general public with offerings for families, young people, and neighborhood associations, providing information on support resources, community dynamics, and ways to get involved in the municipality's social life, promoting inclusion and strengthening support networks.
