The ninth edition of Movelec, the Canary Islands Electric Vehicle Show, has opened its doors in Agüimes, establishing itself as a key event for sustainable mobility in the archipelago.
The event, held for the first time at the Agüimes exhibition center, brings together companies, institutions, and citizens interested in the latest developments in the sector. This gathering underscores the growing interest in electric vehicles, driven by factors such as rising fossil fuel prices, the expansion of the charging network, and the availability of more competitively priced models.

"Gran Canaria leads electric car penetration in the islands, with 51% of the total, and by the end of the year we will exceed 100 charging points."
During the inauguration, the president of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Antonio Morales, highlighted the fair's continuous evolution, which has become the most relevant in the Canary Islands. He also emphasized Gran Canaria's leadership in electric car adoption, accounting for more than half of the total in the islands, and the forecast to exceed one hundred charging points before the end of the year. His speech stressed the need to move towards a cleaner island less dependent on fossil fuels.
In line with this vision, the counselor for Environment, Climate, Energy and Knowledge, Raúl García Brink, focused on the global context, marked by rising oil prices. He explained that interest in electric vehicles has grown by 150% in Spain, highlighting the significant cost difference per 100 kilometers traveled: approximately 8 euros with fossil fuel compared to just 1.75 euros with an electric vehicle. He also noted that acquisition prices have become more comparable, especially thanks to available public aid.

"This is the first major fair we host here, and we are discovering its enormous potential. We want it to continue growing, not just as a temporary alternative, but as a complement to Infecar."
The mayor of Agüimes, Óscar Hernández, expressed his satisfaction at hosting the event in the municipality, a space that aspires to become an island benchmark, beyond being a temporary alternative during works at Infecar. The fair not only exhibits vehicles but also offers advice, talks, and, as a novelty this year, test drives to help users optimize energy performance. This practical approach aims to bring technology closer to the public and break down existing barriers.
The participation of companies from the sector, charging point installers, and services linked to renewable energies consolidates Movelec as an essential meeting point to drive the transition towards zero-emission mobility in the Canary Islands.
