Nía Suardíaz and Tom Pansard Win Wingfoil Open Cup in El Burrero

Spanish rider Nía Suardíaz and French athlete Tom Pansard claimed victory at the 2026 Canary Islands Wingfoil Slalom Open Cup, held at El Burrero Beach.

The event, organized under the authority of the Royal Canary Islands Sailing Federation, gathered more than 30 riders and marked the start of a week of international competition, which will continue with the Gran Canaria GWA Wingfoil World Cup.
In the women's category of the Open Cup, Nía Suardíaz secured the win. The second place went to fellow Tarifa native Mar de Arce, followed by Elena Moreno Romero in third.
In the men's category, Frenchman Tom Pansard took first place, with Italians Francesco Cappuzzo and Sebastiano Zorzi finishing second and third, respectively.
The Canary Islands Cup, determined by the classification of archipelago representatives within the Open event, saw Mar de Arce take the top spot in the women's division, with Elena Moreno Romero second and Anais Mestres Micieces third. In the men's division, Jeremy Rodríguez was crowned champion, followed by teammates Ángel Granda and Francisco Javier Espín.
The 2026 FreeFly-Slalom World Cup season kicked off in El Burrero, with reigning world champions Bastien Escofet and Nía Suardíaz leading the respective male and female rankings.
Following the Canary Islands Open Cup, El Burrero will host the FreeFly-Slalom World Cup on July 21st and 22nd, followed by Surf-Freestyle from the 23rd to the 25th. The Gran Canaria GWA Wingfoil World Cup 2026 is set to attract over 120 athletes from 13 countries.
The event, organized by Club Deportivo Canakite Experiences, Club Náutico El Burrero, and the Ingenio City Council, solidifies Gran Canaria's position as a major global venue for wind sports.
