The municipality of Santa Lucía de Tirajana will feature a float decorated with tomatoes at the Ofrenda Romería del Pino on September 7th in Teror, honoring the harvest workers.

The Ayuntamiento de Santa Lucía de Tirajana has announced that the tomato will be the central element of the float representing the municipality at the Ofrenda Romería del Pino, to be held on September 7th in Teror. The float, a creation by municipal workers Víctor Navarro and Josemi Mederos, will showcase a cart full of tomatoes.
Mayor Francisco García and Identity Councilor José Miguel Vera presented the initiative. García emphasized the historical significance of tomato cultivation in the municipality, recalling that thousands of people worked in the harvest during the last century. The City Council will provide free bus transportation for those wishing to attend the Romería, with registrations opening on September 1st at the Municipal Athenaeum.
José Miguel Vera highlighted that the float, created by the Identity and Public Services area, will serve as a tribute to the harvest and will be permanently integrated into the Zafra Museum for use in municipal events.
Municipal worker Víctor Navarro explained that the tomatoes are made from fiberglass and chicken wire to ensure durability, as the artwork will be used in future exhibitions. Navarro expressed his professional satisfaction in seeing his work represent the municipality at such an event, focusing on performing his job honestly and on the public's enjoyment.
