The second phase of the intervention on the Guiniguada viaduct, in the southbound direction, continues within the established schedule. However, the characteristics of the route on this carriageway present greater complexity than on the north carriageway, which is slowing down the placement of waterproofing membranes.
Cabildo officials visited the site this week and confirmed that the first third of the surface had been reached. The difference in pace compared to the northbound direction is due to the curves of the southern route, which require more adjustments in the installation of the waterproofing membranes.

The first phase, on the northbound lane, was completed in six days, one week ahead of schedule, which allowed that carriageway to reopen and the closure to be moved to the southbound direction. The progress of the second half does not yet indicate whether this advance will be repeated, as after waterproofing, about three days of asphalting work remain before traffic can be restored.
In parallel with the membrane placement, safety barriers and expansion joints are being renewed. These tasks are being carried out simultaneously to concentrate the interventions while each carriageway remains out of service.
The works on the viaduct aim to solve the historical problem of water infiltration that affected the structure. The complete waterproofing of both decks is the main objective to eliminate the source of the leaks.
The closure of the southbound lane, which began on Sunday, forces drivers to use alternative routes such as the GC-23, the tunnels of La Ballena and Julio Luengo, and Avenida Marítima, causing significant traffic jams during peak hours.
