The activity, part of the 25th edition of Maspalomas Pride, focused on diversity training, featuring an expert in the rights of children, adolescents, and trans families. The event sought to address topics of sexual identity and orientation in an accessible way for the elderly audience.
During the talk, the distinction between sexual orientation and identity was emphasized, and how both are different stages in a person's life. The need to learn to be free to love was highlighted, a message that particularly resonated with attendees.
“"We have to learn to be free to love."
The initiative was supported by a renowned influencer and activist from Gran Canaria, as well as a video screening by a writer, poet, and women's rights activist, who shared her experience in defending the rights of the LGTBIQA+ community in the Canary Islands. Their testimonies were crucial in conveying the message, especially for those who, in the past, had to hide their feelings.
The 25th edition of Maspalomas Pride, under the motto 'Our history, their legacy, our pride', is dedicated to older members of the LGTBIQ+ community. The event is sponsored by the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council, through its Tourism Department, the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, through its Tourism Council, and the Government of the Canary Islands, in addition to the support of various entities and companies.
