“"Maspalomas' reputation in recent years is not solely focused on being a tourist destination. The Maspalomas Summer University is enabling this diversification of knowledge. It is becoming a recognized place in the Canary Islands not just for sun and beach, but as a reference point that generates critical thinking, which is so needed in society."

The 34th edition of the Maspalomas Summer University was presented at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC), revealing a program that includes over 20 courses and workshops, a trip to El Hierro, the XX International Rotary CAMP, and two music festivals.
The summer university, considered the oldest in the Canary Islands, is a joint initiative of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council, the ULPGC, and the Cabildo de Gran Canaria. Activities will take place between June 29 and July 10 at various locations such as the Maspalomas Cultural Center, Casa Hondal, the Gloria Palace San Agustín Hotel, and the Maspalomas Skate Park.
Among this year's novelties are training sessions on Canarian Flora, a talk on Ham cutting and tasting, and the conference Canarias 2040: Territorial Trends. The latter will feature the participation of various public and academic figures, who will debate the future of the archipelago.
The training program includes popular courses from previous editions such as Holiday homes and the new Sustainable Planning Law for the tourist use of housing in the Canary Islands, Nutrition without time for diets, and Youth and suicide in the Canary Islands, which is being offered for the third time. Workshops on public speaking, sign language, tourist languages, autism, dance, jazz, singing, writing, and skateboarding will also be available.
In addition to the academic offerings, this year's edition will feature two significant musical events: the Maspalomas International Trumpet Festival, from July 9 to 15, and the Maspalomas Costa Canaria Soul Festival, which will take place from July 17 to 19 on San Agustín beach. Registration for courses and workshops is open on the official website, with discounts for students, large families, unemployed individuals, and people with disabilities.
