After nearly a decade of waiting, the Mogán City Council has obtained the definitive concession to continue occupying and managing 26,000 square meters of the artificial beach in Mogán. The resolution, published on May 14, 2026, grants an extension that will allow the council to maintain the cove's management until 2041, although the calculation periods began on May 5, 2017.
The mayor, Onalia Bueno, has denounced the historical slowness of Costas (Coastal Authority) in resolving cases in the archipelago. The processing was affected by an interim period due to the transfer of responsibilities from the State to the Government of the Canary Islands in 2022. The initial application was submitted in 2017, and after five years without a response from the Spanish Government, management passed to the regional Executive, at which point the City Council reiterated the request. The resolution is signed by Antonio Acosta, Director General of Costas and Management of the Canary Maritime Space.
The extension, which expires in 2029, is renewed for another 12 years, ensuring the continuity of services such as cleaning, lifeguarding, and sunbed and umbrella rentals. However, the concession does not include the area of La Puntilla or El Muelle Viejo, which is heavily used by residents. The council is already processing a new application to manage this area, with plans to improve sea access, the railing, and the surrounding environment.
Concurrently, the Mogán City Council has announced the reinforcement of infraction controls on its beaches due to the approaching summer season. The Local Police have recently issued over a hundred fines, 62 of which were for smoking or discarding cigarette butts, prohibited practices for which the fine can reach up to 1,800 euros.
