The improvement works on the 106 homes in Castillo del Romeral, located in San Bartolomé de Tirajana, have reached 90% of their development and are in the final phase. The completion of these works is scheduled for next August. A site visit by the first deputy mayor, Alejandro Marichal, and the Councilor for Housing, Lucía Jiménez, confirmed the significant progress of the intervention in this residential complex.
This initiative, promoted by the Housing Department of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council in cooperation with the Consorcio de Viviendas de Gran Canaria, covers 11 residential blocks. The main objective is to reinforce structural safety, optimize accessibility, and improve the general conservation conditions of the buildings, which in turn positively impacts the urban environment and residents' quality of life.
“"Today we confirm that this very important action for Castillo del Romeral is entering its final stretch. The works are already 90% executed and will be completed next month, improving accessibility, safety, and building conservation for the benefit of over a hundred families."
Alejandro Marichal emphasized the importance of housing rehabilitation as a pillar for enhancing citizens' quality of life, noting that it goes beyond physical renovation, aiming to dignify neighborhoods and create safer, more accessible spaces.
The municipal official recalled that this intervention is part of a broader strategy for rehabilitating the municipal housing stock. Currently, similar projects are underway in other developments such as La Paz, Grupo IFA, Santa Águeda, and Montaña Clara, directly benefiting 2,079 registered residents. Marichal stated that housing is a priority in public management, driving improvements in accessibility, safety, and quality of life for over 2,000 residents.
For her part, Lucía Jiménez highlighted that the works will modernize a development built in 1983, which required a comprehensive intervention to ensure optimal habitability and accessibility conditions.
The completed actions include structural element repairs, facade renovations, roof waterproofing, installation of accessible ramps, replacement of doors and railings, renewal of common area lighting with LED technology, and improvement of outdoor spaces with accessible pathways and decorative murals evoking the coastal life of Castillo del Romeral.
With a total budget of 553,000 euros, of which over 460,000 euros have already been certified, the intervention is in its final stages, with only finishing touches and specific facade work remaining. The Housing Department reaffirms its commitment to improving the municipality's residential stock, strengthening safety, accessibility, and the quality of urban environments.
