The event, organized by the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council, focused on the less visible consequences of the disease: the physical and emotional exhaustion experienced by those who care for a family member for years. The initiative aims to break the silence that often surrounds this reality within households.
During the session, various specialists in geriatrics, neuropsychology, and therapy analyzed the importance of support networks and the need for caregivers to recognize their own needs. Topics addressed included social isolation, stress management through mindfulness, and the importance of institutional resources to assist in daily life.
“"Caring for those who care is also part of the response that the administration must provide to families living with Alzheimer's."
The day concluded with a Q&A session where attendees shared their personal experiences. This activity is part of a series of initiatives launched in 2023 by the Department for the Elderly, which seeks to highlight the vital role of caregivers and provide them with a space for support and continuous training.
