The decision, made during the ordinary Plenary session in April, will cover costs for municipal services, outstanding invoices, court judgments, subsidies, tourism promotion, technical projects, and necessary purchases for local administration. Additionally, an urgent allocation of 1.37 million euros has been approved to address technical discrepancies in the expansion project of the IES El Tablero-Aguañac.
The funds, sourced from the liquid Treasury surplus, will be used to pay court judgments and late payment interest, settlement refunds, and invoices for services, supplies, and works carried out by external companies. Funds will also be allocated to street and beach cleaning, waste collection, the purchase of containers for the mandatory implementation of the fifth waste container, and the cleaning of schools and other municipal facilities.
These allocations also include credits to cover operational needs of municipal security and emergency forces, as well as for contracting technical services responsible for drafting the basic and execution projects for the new Maspalomas Fire Station. This new station will be built on the current site to adapt its facilities to service requirements.
The Plenary has also allocated resources for the promotion of the primary agricultural and livestock sector, cultural and promotional events linked to the Maspalomas Costa Canaria brand, and subsidies for athletes, clubs, and sports events. Notable events include the Transgrancanaria, the Maspalomas Open Water, the Maspalomas Cup, the Rally Maspalomas, the Subida a Fataga, and the EPIC Gran Canaria.
Furthermore, support has been provided for the inclusive swimming project of the Canarian Association of Minors with Special Needs SUMAS, payment for the Il Divo concert held in Maspalomas during Christmas 2022, and an allocation of 10,000 euros for the renovation of pipes and irrigation and pumping systems of the Heredad de Fataga ‘Acequias de Arriba y de Abajo’, affected by storm Therese.
The expansion of IES El Tablero-Aguañac, which includes the construction of 12 new classrooms for Secondary and Baccalaureate, has received an additional 1.37 million euros for its execution.
In another agenda item, an official twinning initiative has been agreed upon with the Association of Galician Municipalities of the French Way of Santiago, aiming to promote the Gran Canaria Way of Santiago nationally and internationally, especially in anticipation of the Jacobean Holy Year of 2027. This initiative seeks to strengthen cultural and socioeconomic promotion in the municipality's midlands, with Tunte and its Santiago church as a strategic point on this route.
Finally, the naming of a roundabout in Campo Internacional after a tourism entrepreneur, founder of a well-known hotel chain, was unanimously approved in memory of his contribution to the sector. The renewal of the cooperation agreement with the Tax Agency until March 7, 2030, was also noted, and the agreement for the construction of 38 public housing units in El Tablero was modified after it was found that only one plot had the necessary qualification for subsidized housing.
