A 14-year-old teenager, identified as Jeremías, has drowned in a dangerous cliff area in Mogán, Gran Canaria, despite his friends' rescue efforts and the intervention of emergency services.

The tragic event occurred at La Hondura, a cliff located between Puerto Rico and Amadores beaches, known for its danger due to strong waves and frequent whirlpools. Jeremías, 14, ignored warnings from his companions and jumped into the sea, becoming trapped by his own limitations and the adverse conditions.
Two of his friends, seeing that the teenager could not get out of the water on his own, risked their lives by jumping in to attempt a rescue. However, the sea conditions and the slippery exit to land prevented them from averting the tragedy. The friends managed to get out of the water on their own, requiring no assistance.
Emergency services found the young man about a meter deep. Despite extensive efforts by medical personnel, his death could only be confirmed. The head of the Local Police, Marcos Domínguez, described the incident as a "misfortune" and noted that the teenager committed a "small imprudence" by entering an unknown area.
The Mogán City Council advises against swimming in this area and recalls that the demolition of a staircase to access the site was requested in 2021 due to previous incidents. Swimmers are advised to use designated coves to ensure their safety.
Jeremías, who lived in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria with his seven siblings, was passionate about football. Several youth teams, including Arucas CF and Acodetti CF, have expressed their sorrow and remembered the young man with messages of support for his family and friends. The IES Pablo Montesino, where he studied, has also joined the condolences.
