Officers from the Local Police arrived at the property on May 7 to place the sealing sign, thus halting the renovations underway at the premises.
The decision to provisionally suspend the works was made by the Urban Discipline Service, following an inspection visit that revealed the execution of decoration, carpentry, fire suppression systems, security systems, and structural reinforcement works without the corresponding permits.
“"Until now, the only procedure carried out by the developer was a request for a change of ownership of the activity license, which dates back to 1973 and is restricted to bar, restaurant, and dance hall services."
The Urban Planning department has clarified that the original license must be adapted to current regulations, which have evolved significantly over the past 50 years. Furthermore, if the developer intends to use the premises for purposes other than those already established, a new project for the change of activity must be submitted, provided it is compatible with the permitted uses for the area in the current planning. The works will also be subject to the protection regulations governing this historic building on Alcalde Marcial Franco Street.
The halt of the works has brought some relief to local residents, who had expressed concern about the lack of information regarding the conversion of the former Grill Casa Antonio. They fear that the establishment could become a large entertainment venue with a dance floor, multiple bars, and a restaurant, which could disrupt the neighborhood's tranquility and transform it into a space similar to the Yumbo Commercial Center.
A community of residents near the premises filed a formal complaint with the City Council and met with Urban Planning officials, requesting more details about the project. The promoters of the new establishment, named Gay Adventure, have announced on their website and social media that it will feature 2,300 square meters, including a 1,200 square meter relaxation area, a dance zone, bars, a snack restaurant, 1,000 lockers, and other leisure areas.
