The Yaiza City Council has extended its social initiative Yaiza Municipio Corresponsable, aimed at families facing difficulties. This year, the program is providing support to 30 households in the municipality, facilitating family conciliation and promoting the comprehensive development of children in educational, emotional, and social areas.
The initiative is backed by a budget of 93,000 euros, funded by the Ministry of Equality and channeled through the Government of the Canary Islands. The project's development is carried out in collaboration with the Fundación Adsis.
The program's reach extends beyond summer holidays. During the summer break, children engage in academic reinforcement activities, workshops, sports, and crafts. Throughout the academic year, families can continue to utilize these resources, primarily in the afternoons and on weekends, at municipal facilities.
The mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, accompanied by the Councilor for Social Services, César Rijo, the program coordinator for Fundación Adsis in the Canary Islands, Leticia Curbelo, and the director of CEIP Playa Blanca, Víctor Sangil, visited the classroom where activities are held.
Noda emphasized the primary objective: "to design and execute a project that favors the conciliation of beneficiary families, providing them and their children with sufficient resources to improve their living conditions".
Currently, the program's demand exceeds available spots. According to César Rijo, Councilor for Social Services, while 30 families are being assisted, other households are on a waiting list who have also requested access to the service.
Rijo highlighted that a fundamental goal of the project is to prevent and reduce factors that can place families in scenarios of risk and social exclusion.
Program users access it through referrals from the municipal Social Services, as part of the City Council's work with residents in vulnerable situations.
Yaiza Municipio Corresponsable aims to balance meeting family needs with supporting children, incorporating educational reinforcement, cultural and leisure proposals, including workshops, sports activities, and crafts.
The City Council expressed gratitude to the involved entities, especially CEIP Playa Blanca, for providing its facilities for the activities.
