The municipality of Arona has been distinguished with the Tourism Integration and Historical-Artistic Legacy award at the fifth edition of the VIAJAR 2026 Awards. This recognition, granted by the national magazine VIAJAR, values the work carried out to link the municipality's tourism activity with the conservation, dissemination, and knowledge of its historical, artistic, and cultural heritage.
The Councilor for Culture, Historical Heritage, and Tourism, Naím Yánez Alonso, attended the awards ceremony. At the event, Arona shared prominence with national and international destinations and institutions such as Portugal, Marseille, Cáceres, Salou, Hong Kong, as well as tourism entities like Meliá Hotels International, the Mezquita-Cathedral of Córdoba, Hesperia, and Regent Seven Seas Cruises.
This award highlights the work of the Arona City Council in presenting the municipality not only as a leading tourist destination in the Canary Islands but also as a territory with history, its own identity, neighborhoods, traditions, and significant cultural legacy.
The municipal departments of Tourism, Culture, and Historical Heritage are working to incorporate this heritage into the experience of those who visit Arona and, at the same time, bring it closer to the residents themselves, strengthening the knowledge and dissemination of the assets, traditions, and cultural manifestations that form part of the municipality's identity.
The recognition also supports the daily work of the staff of the Autonomous Bodies of Tourism and Culture, and the Historical Heritage area, whose joint efforts expand Arona's cultural and heritage offerings and increase the visibility of its legacy.
The VIAJAR 2026 Awards recognize outstanding destinations, institutions, companies, and initiatives in the tourism sector. The awarding of the prize to Arona has also been reported by media outlets such as EL DÍA, which echoes this fifth edition of the awards.
