The Dependency area and the Home Help Service (SAD) of Arona, under the direction of councilwoman Ruth Martín, has completed the selection of six new permanent home help assistant positions and four interim ones. Since June, a social worker has been added to enhance attention, follow-up, and support for users and their families.
In terms of material resources, the SAD has acquired new uniforms for its staff. The Consistory has allocated 30,000 euros in 2026 to technical aids, including articulated beds, transfer sheets, standing hoists, shower chairs, wheelchairs, toilet raisers, swivel bath seats, walkers, anti-bedsore mattresses, and swivel discs. These resources aim to facilitate the work of professionals and improve the autonomy and safety of those receiving care.
The ARCA project (Arona, Food, and Companionship), developed with the Red Cross, has been implemented, providing daily prepared meals to 50 dependent individuals. It includes leisure activities such as senior gymnastics, workshops, and accompaniment to medical appointments and basic errands for those lacking a support network. A home cleaning service has also been established.
The Personal Autonomy Promotion Service at Home, managed by AFATE, remains active to maintain users' capabilities in their own environment. Additionally, the Arona Roseta Project, operational since September, combats unwanted loneliness among the elderly, offering home physiotherapy, as well as a psychologist and social integrator.
Arona joins five other municipalities in Tenerife benefiting from the Insular Service for Comprehensive Care for the Permanence of the Elderly at Home, promoted by the Cabildo de Tenerife through the IASS. These actions integrate professional, material, and care resources, combining direct attention with support, companionship, autonomy, and social integration services.
