The Arona City Council, through the Department of Education, has concluded a new edition of the “School Health Education–Addiction Prevention” program, reaching more than 5,000 students from Infant and Primary schools.

This initiative, part of the 5th Municipal Plan on Addictions, is consolidating as a key tool for fostering healthy lifestyle habits and preventing risk behaviors in young people. Its objective is to enhance students' personal and social skills to face daily situations responsibly, promoting their overall well-being.
A notable aspect of this edition was its transversal approach, resulting from the collaboration between different municipal departments. This coordination has allowed for a more comprehensive educational proposal connected to the municipality's reality.
Throughout the course, various classroom activities were conducted on healthy eating, responsible consumption, coexistence, addiction prevention, hygiene, physical activity, affective-sexual education, the environment, and accident prevention.
Collaboration with the Economic Promotion department included visits to the Farmers' Market and the Fishermen's Guild of Los Cristianos. These experiences introduced students to the local primary sector, highlighting the consumption of local products, traditional artisanal fishing, and the role of farmers and fishermen in the municipality's sustainable development.
The Arona Local Police also played a significant role, with visits to their facilities that allowed students to learn about their work, the importance of prevention, road safety education, and citizen coexistence, strengthening the perception of the police as a public service.
Visits to the City Council's Plenary Hall enabled schoolchildren to understand the functioning of local administration and the role of public representatives in decision-making. Students had the opportunity to ask questions and exchange ideas with members of the municipal corporation, fostering values of participation and civic education.
The program also included activities on animal welfare, with visits to an animal shelter. Schoolchildren deepened their understanding of the importance of protecting and respecting animals as sentient beings, strengthening values such as empathy and responsibility towards all life forms.
Participating teachers provided very positive feedback on the program, particularly highlighting its practical approach, the diversity of activities, interdepartmental coordination, and the connection of content to students' daily reality.
The Department of Education values the consolidation of this initiative, which evolves annually thanks to the joint work between municipal services and the educational community, maintaining its commitment to a preventive educational model for Infant and Primary students.
