The Drago Canarias group reported this Tuesday on the collapse of the dragon tree located in Rambla del Mar. This event marks the second loss of a centenary specimen in the last two months in the municipality, following the fall of another dragon tree in San Francisco.
The organization had previously warned, on May 6, about a partial break in this tree, emphasizing the urgency of intervention to prevent its total collapse. They criticize the Los Realejos City Council for not addressing their request, which has led to an irreversible loss for the natural heritage of the area.
“"While the dragon tree of Rambla del Mar was definitively breaking, members of the Government team applauded the tribute paid to the dragon tree of the San Francisco cemetery at the Gala for the Election of the Romera Mayor of the May Festivities."
From Drago Canarias in Los Realejos, the Government team is urged to take responsibility, provide an explanation to the citizens about the circumstances of this loss, and adopt urgent measures to prevent similar situations from occurring in the future.
The group had already warned on May 6 about the partial fall of the dragon tree on a property near the boundary of the Rambla de Castro Protected Landscape, insisting on the need for immediate action. Other specimens, such as the dragon tree of Siete Fuentes or the dragon tree of Los Príncipes, also show signs of deterioration and vulnerability that require urgent attention.
