The Ministry of Education of the Canary Islands Government has announced the creation of a specialized unit for teacher well-being, designed to offer support and guidance in situations of harassment or conflict.

This new unit, presented by Minister Poli Suárez, responds to a long-standing need expressed by the teaching community, aiming to place the care of education professionals at the core of educational action. The announcement was made during the second autonomous meeting of public school principals, held in Agüimes, Gran Canaria, and continuing in Tenerife.

"With the launch of the Teacher Well-being Unit, we are taking a firm step to place the care of our teachers at the center of educational action."

The initiative is part of the Teacher Well-being Plan, a comprehensive strategy that includes prevention, training, needs analysis, and specialized care. Its main objective is to safeguard the occupational health and psychosocial well-being of teaching staff, recognizing that caring for teachers is fundamental to the quality of education.
Attached to the General Directorate of Staff and Teacher Training, coordinated by Mónica Ramírez, the unit will function as a centralized resource. It will offer reception, listening, guidance, and referral, articulating an action circuit for the reception, analysis, and classification of each case, assigning a specialized professional to accompany the teacher.
In addition to its preventive and supportive nature, the unit will seek to detect risk factors early and contribute to improving the work environment in educational centers. It will also provide information on available procedures and resources, strengthening coordination with relevant bodies.
The principals' meeting, which brings together over 600 management teams, has served as a platform to strengthen coordination and listen directly to those who manage the day-to-day operations of schools. Psychiatrist María Velasco Ghisleri opened the session by addressing mental health and emotional well-being in the educational field, offering practical tools for managing complex situations.
