CD Tenerife Aims for Historic Early Promotion in Primera RFEF

The Canarian team could achieve the earliest promotion in its history and in the category if they win in Ponferrada and Celta Fortuna fails to win in Pontevedra.

CD Tenerife is on the verge of securing promotion to Segunda División in April, a milestone that would not only be the earliest in the club's history but also in the current format of Primera RFEF.

For this achievement to materialize, the team from Tenerife needs to secure a victory in their upcoming match in Ponferrada and for Celta Fortuna to fail to win their match against Pontevedra.
There is a precedent in the club's history, when on April 30, 1961, CD Tenerife managed to ascend to the top flight of Spanish football. That team, led by Heriberto Herrera, remained leaders in 19 of the 30 matchdays and did not lose any match at the Heliodoro during that season.
In the short history of Primera RFEF, no team has achieved such an early promotion. Racing de Santander currently holds the record, having secured their return to professional football on May 1, 2022. Racing, like CD Tenerife this season, dominated their group, finishing with 82 points.
Another example of rapid promotion was that of Castellón in the 2023/24 season, who guaranteed their promotion on May 5 after an almost perfect trajectory. The Castalia team led their group in 32 of the 35 matchdays played until their promotion, with an average of two goals per game, setting records that are still considered the most brilliant in the history of the bronze category under the current format.
