CD Tenerife has secured its return to LaLiga Hypermotion at the end of the 2025/2026 season, thus fulfilling its objective of promotion to professional football. This achievement was accomplished after a campaign focused on immediate reconstruction and high demands, a feat reached by few teams after descending to the third tier of Spanish football.
May 1, 2026, will be remembered as the promotion date, which was confirmed even before playing against Barakaldo, thanks to a goal by Martín Pedroarenas against Celta Fortuna at Balaídos. After securing promotion, Tenerife received the champion's guard of honor during the final four matchdays, concluding this final stretch with two victories (against Barakaldo and Pontevedra) and two defeats (against Unionistas de Salamanca and Ourense).
From the start of the campaign, the team led by Álvaro Cervera remained in the upper part of the standings, displaying a clear competitive identity based on defensive solidity, experience, and consistency. Tenerife found stability in its performance, positioning itself as one of the main candidates for direct promotion for most of the championship.
A turning point occurred after a goalless draw against Bilbao Athletic, which led to a more irregular phase. During this period, the team secured three wins, seven draws, and one loss in eleven matches, coinciding with increased pressure for the objective and a notable decrease in offensive output. After scoring ten goals in two previous matches against Deportivo de Guadalajara and Real Madrid Castilla, the team only managed ten goals in this later stage, influenced by nerves and pressure.
Despite the difficulties, Tenerife managed to stay in the promotion race without losing its top position and maintaining a considerable distance from its main pursuer, Celta Fortuna.
The season was also marked by individual milestones. Aitor Sanz reached 400 matches with the club, while Álvaro Cervera became the coach with the most games managed in the entity's history. Enric Gallego joined the top ten all-time leading scorers for the club with 19 goals and two assists.
The fanbase demonstrated its strength with one of the best average home attendance figures in the category, with approximately 12,000 spectators per match at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López. Furthermore, the team received constant support during away games, with between 200 and 700 fans accompanying the squad off the island.
The season included a media incident in the match against Zamora CF due to an issue with the kits, which forced a delay in the start. The situation was resolved with the financial intervention of shareholder Rayco García. Institutionally, CD Tenerife reinforced its hierarchical structure, and the General Shareholders' Meeting in December supported the board of directors and the continuity of the project, projecting stability and unity in a context of sporting and economic reconstruction.
CD Tenerife thus returns to LaLiga Hypermotion after a season of contrasts, overcoming a competitive slump and keeping the promotion bid alive. This return to professional football concludes a season that adds another page to the club's centenary history.
