A 36-year-old man sustained severe multiple traumas after falling seven meters into an empty pond in Lomo de Mena, Güímar, Tenerife, necessitating a complex, coordinated rescue.

Emergency services in Tenerife launched a large-scale operation yesterday afternoon to rescue a 36-year-old man who fell into an empty pond in the Lomo de Mena area, within the municipality of Güímar. The incident resulted in serious injuries for the individual.
The fall, estimated at approximately seven meters deep, caused the man to impact violently against the concrete bottom of the hydraulic structure, leading to severe multiple traumas. The exact causes of the incident are still under investigation.
Güímar Local Police were the first to arrive, securing the area and alerting the Emergency and Security Coordinating Center (CECOES) 1-1-2. Given the pond's depth and the verticality of its walls, the rescue was immediately deemed a highly complex technical task.

"The effective coordination among the different emergency services allowed the situation to be resolved as quickly as possible given the circumstances."

Despite the initial activation of a helicopter from the Emergency and Rescue Group (GES), the swift and skilled actions of firefighters and paramedics on the ground allowed the patient to be stabilized and safely extracted using rope systems and a rescue stretcher. The man was transported by medicalized ambulance to a hospital in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, where he was admitted in a stable condition but with multiple serious injuries.
This incident highlights the constant danger posed by empty agricultural infrastructures without adequate fencing in the island's rural areas. The coordinated response of the emergency teams was crucial in preventing a fatal outcome.
