The Minister of Education for the Canary Islands Government, Poli Suárez, has indicated that a generalized suspension of classes is not anticipated for Pope Leo XIV's visit to the islands.

The Ministry of Education of the Canary Islands Government does not foresee a widespread suspension of classes due to the visit of Pope Leo XIV to the islands. As announced by Minister Poli Suárez, any potential disruptions would partially affect the municipalities where the pontiff's scheduled events will take place in Gran Canaria and Tenerife.
Suárez explained that while there are areas where closing educational centers would be necessary, the final decision will not be made until the exact schedules for planned road closures are available. This information is expected after a meeting this Thursday at the Government Delegation with the organizers of the papal visit, a fact his department learned about unofficially.
The minister emphasized the importance of this anticipated decision, which must prioritize mobility and security during the Pope's stay on both islands. He reiterated that, at present, the direction is not to suspend classes generically, and they are awaiting official confirmation.
