The facility, which had been inactive for over 30 years, restarted operations a year ago following an administrative extension. The proximity of the site, just 50 meters from residential areas and a public school, has caused significant alarm among families due to the constant presence of airborne dust.
Locals report that heavy machinery and earth-moving activities generate dust clouds that infiltrate both homes and public spaces. This situation particularly impacts vulnerable groups, including children and the elderly, who have reported respiratory difficulties and throat irritation.

Beyond health concerns, the neighborhood association highlights the destruction of ethnographic heritage in the mountain area, including historical sites and traditional crops. They have criticized the lack of institutional response regarding alleged irregularities in the company's technical reports.
Although the Granadilla de Abona City Council unanimously approved monitoring air quality, the results of these measurements have yet to be made public. Consequently, the community continues to demand an immediate precautionary closure of the quarry to protect public health.
