The final decision regarding the interruption of school activities in the island capitals has not yet been made by the Ministry of Education. This measure, which could include online learning or the cancellation of school days, is being considered as a precaution ahead of Pope Leo XIV's arrival.
The Minister of Education, Poli Suárez, explained this Monday in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria that the administration is awaiting official communication and the Pontiff's definitive agenda before making an announcement. Public safety and mobility management are key factors influencing the decision.
“"The decision has not been made because we have not received official communication. However, given an event of such magnitude, safety prevails here."
The mobilization of thousands of people and potential traffic disruptions in the Canarian capitals pose a logistical challenge for the education system. Technical meetings that began this Monday, along with recommendations from the State Security Forces and Corps, will be crucial for the Ministry's roadmap.
The main objective is to prevent congestion on the islands and protect the educational community, without hindering the progress of the academic year. Families in Tenerife and Gran Canaria remain attentive to the resolution expected in the coming days.
