The Parliament of Canarias paid tribute this Monday to the Interinsular Football Federation of Las Palmas following the granting of the «Real» (Royal) title by His Majesty the King's Household, coinciding with its centenary.
The autonomous Chamber held an institutional event to acknowledge the entity's profound social and sporting impact over its hundred-year history. Parliament President Astrid Pérez highlighted that the «Real» title honors the collective effort of generations involved in Canarian football, encompassing grassroots football and the dedication of its people.
The Federation's crucial role in the territorial integration of the islands was emphasized, promoting football as a space for coexistence, integration, and the transmission of values such as respect, effort, and camaraderie.
The Minister of Education, Vocational Training, Physical Activity, and Sports of the Government of Canarias, Poli Suárez, stated that the distinction awarded by the Royal Household recognizes the work of thousands of individuals over the past century, not a single milestone, but a trajectory built by several generations. He valued the contributions of clubs, athletes, coaches, referees, leaders, volunteers, and families, as well as the management by the federation's president, José Juan Arencibia.
“
"This title belongs to each one of them; it is the recognition of grassroots football, but also of the constancy and commitment of our people."
“
"This recognition does not reward a specific moment or milestone, but distinguishes a trajectory built by several generations."
José Juan Arencibia, president of the Interinsular Football Federation of Las Palmas, expressed gratitude for the tribute and described the «Real» title as the organization's greatest institutional recognition in its hundred years of existence, emphasizing it as a collective homage to all who have contributed to the federation's history.
“
"It does not belong to a specific board of directors or a particular period, but constitutes a collective homage to all the people who have contributed to building the federation's history."
The event, held in the Sala Europa, was also attended by the Director General of Physical Activity and Sports of the Government of Canarias, María Rojas, among other authorities. This ceremony marks the beginning of a series of institutional recognitions by various Canarian public administrations.
