A man died this Tuesday in the south of Tenerife after being rescued from the sea on the coast of the municipality of Arona. The incident took place in the Las Galletas area, between Los Enojados and Los Sanojados beaches.
The Canary Islands Government's Emergency and Safety Coordination Center (CECOES) 112 received the alert at 2:06 PM, reporting that a person was in distress in the water. Emergency resources were immediately activated.
Members of the Consortium of Firefighters of Tenerife responded to the scene, entered the water, and managed to rescue the individual. Upon reaching the shore, medical personnel from the Canary Emergency Medical Service (SUC) found the swimmer in cardiorespiratory arrest.
The SUC deployed a mobile intensive care unit, a basic life support ambulance, and a medicalized helicopter. Paramedics performed basic and advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation maneuvers, but their efforts were unsuccessful, and his death was confirmed.
Local Police secured the area and assisted the emergency services. The Civil Guard took custody of the deceased's body until the judicial authority arrived and conducted the relevant inquiries.
