The Port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife has been chosen as the main venue for Pope Leo XIV's farewell from Spain on June 12, where he will celebrate a massive open-air mass.

This highly anticipated event among the faithful will mark the grand finale of the Pontiff's official visit before his return to Rome. The selection of the Santa Cruz dock is due to its extensive logistical capacity, allowing the area to be transformed into a vast open-air cathedral capable of accommodating thousands of attendees from across the archipelago and abroad.
Although the detailed official agenda will be released before Holy Week, coordinators have indicated that Tenerife will play a central role in the Pope's tour conclusion. The arrival of Pope Leo XIV on the island represents a significant religious and social milestone, making the capital of Tenerife the epicenter of faith for 24 hours of intense activity.
To ensure security and order at such a large-scale event, attendance will be free, but prior registration is mandatory. The Holy See will activate a digital registration system on its official website, conelpapa.es, in the coming weeks, allowing individuals or organized groups such as parishes or schools to sign up.

Although the event is open to the public, registration will be the only way to guarantee access to preferred areas and facilitate relevant security checks.

Pope Leo XIV's visit to Tenerife and other national venues has an initial budget of 15 million euros. The estimated indirect economic impact for the Canary Islands is expected to exceed 100 million euros, directly benefiting the local hospitality and transport sectors. Currently, 50% of the funding has already been secured through sponsorships and private donations.
The Holy Father will be in the Canary Islands on June 11 and 12. While the volunteer quota in Barcelona is already closed, the recruitment process in Tenerife remains open. Volunteers are sought for logistical support at the Port of Santa Cruz, host families for pilgrims, and companies willing to make in-kind donations. Under the motto “Lift up your gaze,” Pope Leo XIV will deliver an international message from Tenerife, reinforcing the role of the Canary Islands as a bridge of unity and a welcoming land.
