The exhibition Rita, by a renowned artist from Tenerife, is on display at Galería Artizar in La Laguna until May 30. This project marks the artist's return to exhibition activity, being the third time her works have been shown in this space, solidifying a bond that the artist describes as part of her “artistic family.”
The exhibition is a personal tribute to her pet, who passed away approximately two and a half months ago. The pieces were conceived during the last months of her “dog-daughter's” life, reflecting the experience of companionship until the final farewell. This intimate approach transforms the exhibition into a homage to one of her best friends.
“"I realize it's super intuitive. I paint life. It's like when you walk, you know how to do it in a certain way but you don't know how to explain why you move that way."
The artist is distinguished by her use of recycled materials, transforming fabrics such as sheets, curtains, or scarves donated by family and friends into canvases for her creations. On these fabrics, she intervenes directly with markers or acrylic materials, giving a second life to the materials and imbuing them with new meaning.
The exhibition also addresses contemporary themes such as loneliness in the digital age. The artist reflects on how absorption in screens distances us from what is happening around us. Some of the works, with their washes and blurred effects, evoke memories and thoughts, while a central piece on the back wall of the room shows a figure embracing an animal, immersed in darkness, symbolizing the depth of emotion.
