This benefit has become a crucial support for thousands of unemployed people in the islands, not only by providing a monthly income but also by ensuring the continuity of contributions to the Social Security system, which positively impacts their future retirement pension.
The subsidy is designed for those who have exhausted their contributory unemployment benefit or are not entitled to it, and who, due to their age, face greater difficulties in re-entering the labor market. Unlike other aids, this one has no time limit and can be received continuously until reaching the ordinary retirement age.
“"This feature makes it a tool that strengthens the social protection system, because while other subsidies are exhausted and extinguished after a few months, this one allows beneficiaries to maintain stable income for years, provided they continue to meet the required conditions."
To access this aid, applicants must meet several requirements, such as being 52 years old or older, being registered as a job seeker, and having previously exhausted a benefit or subsidy. Furthermore, it is essential to prove a sufficient contribution history for a future contributory pension, with at least 15 years contributed to Social Security, two of which must be within the last 15 years, and a minimum of six years contributed for unemployment. The applicant's monthly income cannot exceed 75% of the interprofessional minimum wage.
The amount of the subsidy is equivalent to 80% of the IPREM, which in 2026 translates to 480 euros per month, distributed in 12 annual payments, totaling 5,760 euros per year. To continue receiving the aid, beneficiaries must submit an annual income statement demonstrating that they still meet the economic requirements. Applications can be made through the SEPE electronic headquarters, in person by appointment, or through administrative registration.
