Elections for the presidency of the Círculo de Amistad XII de Enero were held on June 10th, following a call by Andrés Rodríguez, who led the institution for the past 26 months. The electoral day concluded with the assumption of Sergio Núñez, who joined the board seven months ago and now takes over the leadership.
Despite tensions in recent assemblies, marked by debates over the Los Moriscos land, the rights of 'socios predilectos' (favorite members), and budget approvals, only one candidacy was presented. This was headed by Sergio Núñez, who now assumes the direction of the entity.
Critical sectors, mainly represented by Canario Lucha and Recupera El Recreo, decided not to present an alternative candidacy. However, they maintain their disagreements regarding the management carried out and the current direction of the entity.
Canario Lucha argues that their electoral absence does not signify a renunciation of change, but rather a decision made due to conditions they deem inadequate. They demand greater transparency and recall that the external audit announced by the new presidency is an obligation stemming from public subsidies received, exceeding 600,000 euros. They also request clarifications on the photovoltaic project and the electoral process.
For its part, Recupera El Recreo believes that Sergio Núñez's candidacy represents a continuation of the previous leadership. This group questions the lack of renewal within the team and calls for more transparent management, noting that some measures presented as novelties had already been advocated by their group previously.
Both groups agree on the institution's need to implement changes to regain the trust of some of its members.
