The conflict arose after AENA limited parking time in the passenger pick-up area and imposed additional fees. This measure forced industry professionals to relocate to an outdoor area which, according to union representatives, lacks the minimum conditions required for their work.
A technical report by the Canarian Institute of Occupational Safety (ICASEL) confirmed several deficiencies in the assigned space. Identified issues include poor night lighting, lack of proper pedestrian signage, and shortcomings in hygiene and thermal comfort, violating current occupational health and safety regulations.

Although an agreement exists between AENA and employers to suspend fees until the end of 2027, unions have rejected that this economic deal is sufficient. They are demanding immediate provisional measures to ensure worker health and safety, warning that they will not accept delays in addressing these basic needs.
