Miriam Hernández, a pastry chef originally from Tenerife, has received the prestigious Wedding Cake Designer of the Year award at the second edition of the London Wedding Awards 2026. This recognition solidifies her career in the demanding luxury pastry market in the United Kingdom, where she has lived for a decade.
Hernández, 39, began her journey in pastry at her family's business in Tenerife, accumulating over 15 years of experience before moving to London. There, she started working in a local bakery and, after her son was born, began creating custom cakes for fellow Spaniards, which eventually led to her own business through recommendations.
The pastry chef emphasizes the importance of continuous training, having completed over 50 specialized courses in customization techniques, chocolate, and decorative effects. Her passion for the profession dates back to her childhood, fascinated by the work of bakers in her father's shop, which led her to dedicate hours to practice and improvement.
The personal signature of her creations lies in a balance between flavor, avoiding excessive sweetness, and detailed, patient design. Hernández has shared curious commissions, such as cakes decorated with marijuana motifs or inspired by board games, underscoring the universality of the wedding cake as a symbol of love's celebration.
The London award, which recognizes the best wedding cake businesses, came as a pleasant surprise to Hernández, who now aims to continue growing in the luxury pastry sector, collaborating on product launches and creating sweets inspired by exclusive elements.
