This exercise, scheduled for May 15, will take place in an urban-forest interface area of the municipality of La Guancha, characterized by the proximity between vegetation and buildings. The initiative is part of the preparations before the official start of the 2026 Fire Campaign.
The main objective of this activity is to test the effectiveness of the Cabildo's own and external resources, as well as the established security protocols. A crucial aspect of the drill will be the testing of evacuation procedures for the population, including the establishment of a municipal shelter that can accommodate both people and pets and other animals.
“"This exercise is crucial to prepare intervention teams."
The Councillor for Natural Environment, Blanca Pérez, has emphasized the importance of this drill for the preparation of emergency teams. For his part, Iván Martín, director of Security and Emergencies, highlighted that the exercise will allow identifying areas for improvement in coordination with CECOPIN and optimizing information flow during crisis situations.
The insular director of Natural Environment, Pedro Millán, has stressed the role that Brifor will play in this demanding exercise, which will also involve local, regional, and national personnel under the Special Plan for Emergency Attention for Forest Fires in the Canary Islands (INFOCA). The drill includes two operational scenarios: an incident scenario, which will simulate the evacuation of residents and animals from a neighborhood to a meeting point and a shelter, and a decision-making scenario, managed between CECOPIN and the insular Advanced Command Post (PMA) to coordinate units in real-time.
In addition to the operational part, the initiative seeks to foster citizen awareness in La Guancha. Specific training on self-protection initiatives against catastrophes will be offered, aimed at both residents and social agents of the municipality. The Cabildo is committed to informing the population in advance about the specific procedures to ensure their collaboration during the development of this preventive exercise.
