The University of La Laguna and the Provincial Federation of Metal and New Technologies Companies of Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Femete) have signed a collaboration agreement to strengthen the link between education and the productive sector.

The agreement, with an initial duration of two years, will allow students from Femete's Formación Dual Industrial 2026 program to carry out maintenance tasks in the facilities of the University of La Laguna. This initiative will provide practical experience in real work environments, contributing to the preservation of the university's heritage.
The agreement also includes a strategic line for Femete to design and implement training actions aimed at retraining and updating the University's technical staff, tailored to the specific needs of the academic institution.
This initiative is part of the Formación Dual Industrial 2026 project, funded by the Canary Islands Employment Service (SCE) and the State Public Employment Service (SEPE). The program aims to improve the employability of unemployed individuals through a model combining theoretical training, practical learning, and professional experience. It is structured into eight specialized pathways to meet the current needs of industrial and technological companies in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
The maintenance activities at the University will incur no cost to the institution, as they are financed by the Dual Industrial Training program. The work will be permanently supervised by specialized Femete faculty and executed under strict criteria of quality, occupational risk prevention, environmental sustainability, and technical coordination.
Furthermore, during the signing, the possibility was discussed for the academic center to create a university micro-credentials training program for industrial sectors such as automotive. The rector of the ULL highlighted that these micro-credentials are an agile and versatile tool to respond to the constant demand for greater professionalization and labor retraining, always accompanied by reference entities in each field, such as Femete in this case, while also valuing the opportunity offered by dual training.

"It represents an intelligent way to connect training, employment, and service to society. Our students learn by working in real scenarios, develop highly sought-after skills by companies, and at the same time, contribute to improving public facilities as relevant as those of the University of La Laguna."

President of Femete

"Collaboration between institutions is the best tool to respond to the major challenges of the labor market. This agreement demonstrates that when universities and companies work together, a virtuous circle is generated: talent is boosted, labor insertion is favored, professional qualifications are improved, and direct benefit is brought to society. At Femete, we will continue to bet on this collaboration model because we firmly believe that the future of our industry lies in training people in real contexts aligned with the needs of the productive sector."
