These micro-degrees, based on subjects from existing degree programs, are designed for students who have completed at least the first full year of their degree and wish to specialize in a specific field. The initial offering includes the Micro-degree in History and Language of Cinema, featuring four six-credit courses and ten planned places, primarily for Humanities students, though it may be opened to other profiles if spots remain available.
The second micro-degree is Graphic and Visual Communication, focused on acquiring skills for creating visual discourse and graphic narratives. It is intended for students of Journalism, Cultural Heritage Restoration, and Fine Arts, with an offering of five places and four courses. The possibility of opening it to industry professionals is also considered if places are not filled.
The third approved micro-degree is Technical and Digital Documentation of Cultural Heritage. Its aim is to delve into the analysis and recording of documentary material applied to the study, diagnosis, and cataloging of cultural heritage. It has the same structure, places, and credits as the previous one and is aimed at students of Arts and Humanities and related degrees.
José Manuel García Fraga, Vice-Rector for Teaching, explained that the limited number of places is because the micro-degrees are designed for students already enrolled in courses where these subjects are taught, and the offering will be adjusted based on demand. The cost of these micro-degrees corresponds to the public fees for each individual subject.
Furthermore, the degree programs in the Faculty of Economics, Business, and Tourism will undergo significant modifications to meet labor market demands. Dean Carmen Inés de la Rosa stated that the goal is to create more flexible, internationalized degrees with new digital, ethical, and sustainability competencies, including specialization tracks and dual training.
This proposal, which includes a new Degree in Marketing, has been sent to the regional government following the Social Council's authorization. Vice-Rector García indicated that, if approved, these changes would be implemented in the 2027/28 academic year.
Rector Francisco García added that five new degrees are planned for the 2027/28 academic year: Aerospace Engineering, Data Management, Biomedicine, Electrical Engineering, and Marketing.
In other matters, the departure of Víctor Díaz as interim secretary of the Social Council was announced, a position that Marta Quirós will now occupy. The council thanked Díaz for his work.
Prior to the session, members of the Social Council visited the facilities of the General Service for Research Support (SEGAI).
