The University of La Laguna has approved the creation of two new chairs in collaboration with the public company Imetisa, focusing on health, specifically diagnostic imaging, neurocomputation, telemedicine, and artificial intelligence.

The University of La Laguna (ULL) approved the creation of two new chairs last June, adding to the existing 25 strategic collaboration entities with companies and institutions. Both chairs are related to the health sector: the Chair of Functional Diagnostic Imaging and Neurocomputation and the Chair of Telemedicine, Artificial Intelligence, and Clinical and Teaching Innovation in Medicine and Surgery.
These initiatives, jointly promoted by the ULL and the public company Imetisa (Instituto Médico Tinerfeño, S.A.), aim to optimize public resources, foster knowledge transfer, and strengthen regional leadership in medical imaging, neurocomputation, and AI diagnostics. Imetisa, linked to the Tenerife Island Council, shares scientific infrastructure with the university, such as the Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Service.
The Chair of Functional Diagnostic Imaging and Neurocomputation, led by professor José Luis González Mora, will carry out training activities, research programs, and dissemination actions in diagnostic imaging and neurocomputation.
Meanwhile, the Chair of Telemedicine, Artificial Intelligence, and Clinical and Teaching Innovation in Medicine and Surgery, under the direction of doctor Guillermo Murillo, will focus on training in telemedicine, robotics, artificial intelligence, and other clinical areas, as well as promoting research and the validation of innovative solutions in medicine and surgery.
The presentation event included the participation of Imetisa's manager, Néstor Sánchez; the ULL's Vice-Rector for Culture and University Extension, Isabel León; the Innovation Councilor of the Tenerife Island Council, Juan José Martínez; and the Rector of the ULL, Francisco García.
Councilor Juan José Martínez highlighted Imetisa's efficiency as a public company and its contribution to the Canary Health Service, as well as its support for university research. Rector Francisco García emphasized the collaboration between the ULL and the Tenerife Island Council and mentioned future projects at the Institute of Biomedical Technologies, including facility expansion and the introduction of a Degree in Biomedicine.
