With spring in full swing and summer on the horizon, many citizens are checking their calendars for upcoming holidays. The good news is that the next long weekend is very close, and for some, it will turn into an extended period of rest.
Friday, May 1st, marking Labor Day, will be a national holiday, leading to the closure of educational centers and most businesses. Exceptions usually occur in the service sector, where establishments are more likely to remain open.
For those who do not work on weekends, this national holiday will combine with Saturday and Sunday, forming a three-day long weekend for the entire island of Tenerife, with the aforementioned exceptions.
Those who reside or study in the capital of Tenerife will be the most fortunate, as they will enjoy an additional holiday.
However, residents and students of Santa Cruz de Tenerife will have an additional advantage. Monday, May 4th, will also be a holiday in the capital, due to the City Council's decision to move the Day of the Cross holiday, which falls on a Sunday this year. This measure will allow capital residents to enjoy a four-day 'super long weekend', perfect for exploring new places, enjoying the sea or mountains, or even planning a getaway off the island.
