The call, managed by the Directorate General for the Elderly and Active Participation, primarily aims to promote active aging, combat unwanted loneliness, and strengthen the associative fabric in the Canary Islands. Applications must be submitted through the electronic headquarters of the Government of the Canary Islands within 15 business days following their publication in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (BOC).
The Minister of Social Welfare, Candelaria Delgado, emphasized the significance of these grants as a commitment to the work carried out daily by social entities and local administrations to improve the quality of life for the elderly and foster a more participatory and supportive society. She stated the goal is to promote projects that keep seniors active and engaged in community life, while also reinforcing volunteerism as a tool for social commitment.
For her part, the Director General for the Elderly and Active Participation, Verónica Meseguer, noted that these aids enable the development of innovative projects directly reaching individuals, especially those experiencing loneliness or isolation risk, while strengthening the network of entities working on the ground across all municipalities of the Canary Islands. The objective is to continue promoting an active, healthy, and participatory aging model, where seniors remain key figures in society, alongside supporting volunteer work for collective well-being.
The funding is divided into two main areas: 3 million euros will be allocated to projects for the elderly and 485,000 euros to volunteer-related activities. The call is processed under a competitive bidding regime.
The call includes five specific subsidy lines. In the area of Social Inclusion for the Elderly, funding will support projects for active aging and social inclusion (2,000,000 euros), intervention against unwanted loneliness (900,000 euros), and programs for supervised elderly individuals (100,000 euros). In the Volunteerism area, aid will be distributed between the promotion of volunteerism (200,000 euros) and the development of volunteer activities (285,000 euros).
Beneficiary entities for these subsidies include local corporations, inter-municipal associations, island councils, and their autonomous bodies, as well as public foundations and universities. Legally constituted non-profit private entities whose statutory aims are linked to the social sphere and the target groups of the call may also apply.
