Candelaria is preparing to celebrate a special day on Saturday, July 11th, in honor of the Virgen del Carmen, patron saint of fishermen and protector of the maritime town, with a program combining tradition and festivities.

The celebration, part of the Santa Ana and Virgen del Carmen 2026 Festivals, will begin at 6:30 AM at the Parroquia de Santa Ana with the Rosario de la Aurora (Rosary of the Dawn) and the procession of the Virgin to the Muelle Pesquero (Fishing Pier). The mayor of Candelaria, Mari Brito, highlighted the importance of this festival for the municipality's identity, calling it a tribute to its seafaring essence and the families who have lived from the sea.
Upon arrival at the Fishing Pier, a Eucharist will be held in the Plaza de Los Pescadores, presided over by parish priest Fray Dailos José Melo González, with the participation of the Agrupación Folklórica Santa Ana-San Blas. Afterwards, a popular chocolate tasting will be offered, courtesy of Churrería El Kiosko.
At 9:00 AM, El Pozo street will be filled with color by traditional salt carpets, created by residents. At 10:00 AM, musical entertainment will be provided by La Dixieland Las Candelas. The Councilor for Festivals, Manuel González, emphasized the effort put into the program, which aims to combine religious and traditional elements with moments of music and celebration for all audiences.
In the afternoon, at 7:30 PM, the Fishing Pier will host one of the day's most anticipated moments: the prayer, floral offering, and the maritime procession of the Virgen del Carmen. Following this, in the Plaza de Los Pescadores, Fran Hernández will offer a concert performing «El Pescador». The day will conclude with a fireworks display upon the boat's return, followed by the procession back to the Parroquia de Santa Ana through the carpeted streets, accompanied by the Banda de Música Las Candelas. The festivities will close at 11:30 PM in the Plaza de Santa Ana with a 'verbena' (street party) featuring orchestras Tenerife and Maquinaria.
