Taking advantage of the school holidays, the Candelaria City Council has carried out various improvement and maintenance actions in the municipality's educational centers. The work has primarily focused on accessibility, cleaning, gardening, facility repairs, and safety in school environments.
These interventions are part of a continuous line of work that the council has maintained for the past decade. From 2023 to the present, a municipal investment exceeding 1.5 million euros has been allocated to the improvement, adaptation, and maintenance of the schools.
The mayor of Candelaria, Mari Brito, noted that this planning is maintained throughout the year and intensified during school holidays to undertake actions requiring intervention in centers without students. "We have already surpassed one and a half million euros invested in our educational centers, and we have done so sustainably, course after course. This is not a one-off summer action, but a line of work we maintain over time. The education of the children of Candelaria is a priority, as is ensuring they study in adequate, safe, and well-maintained spaces," she stated.
Soon, new improvement actions will be executed, funded by municipal savings, for approximately 200,000 euros. These include painting a court at CEIP Punta Larga, waterproofing the Culinary Cycle area, paving the playground at CEIP Príncipe Felipe, and conditioning bathrooms at CEIP Punta Larga and CEIP Igueste, continuing the interventions in the municipality's various schools.
During the vacation period, interventions were made in the bathrooms of Early Childhood Education at CEIP Príncipe Felipe and the sensory garden in Barranco Hondo was conditioned. Additionally, an intensive cleaning campaign was carried out in the interior and exterior spaces of all educational centers, along with garden maintenance and repairs to detected pipe leaks.
In terms of road safety, pedestrian crossings in school areas have been repainted to enhance the safety of students and families accessing the centers, especially during entry and exit hours. These works will continue in the coming days.
The Councilor for Education, Maeva Tendero, highlighted the work developed by municipal staff during these weeks: "It is work that is done within a very tight timeframe, between the end of summer camps and the start of the school year. I want to thank the effort of the cleaning and maintenance teams, as well as the agreement crews from Senderos and Works and Services, who have worked during these weeks to ensure the centers are ready for the start of the course."
Tendero also emphasized the importance of maintaining educational spaces in good condition: "Caring for the spaces where our children spend so many hours is also caring for them. Finding the school clean, with well-kept gardens, facilities in good condition, and safer access is not a minor detail. These actions contribute to students and families starting the course in better conditions."
