The Cabildo de Tenerife has completed the improvement works on the access roads to the Valle de Güímar Industrial Park, a strategic action that has transformed mobility in the area, eliminating traffic jams and facilitating the transit of over 70,000 vehicles daily.

The president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, accompanied by the island's councillor for Mobility and the councillor for Roads, as well as the deputy minister of Infrastructure of the Government of the Canary Islands and the mayors of Arafo and Güímar, visited the site. During the visit, the president highlighted that the intervention has put an end to a historical mobility problem.

"The traffic jams that occurred at the accesses to the Industrial Park, an economic and industrial hub where more than 5,000 people work and which registers high traffic density, with about 3,000 vehicles every hour, have been eliminated."

With an investment of 2.9 million euros, fully financed by the Island Council, the project addresses a long-standing demand from residents of Arafo, Güímar, and Candelaria, as well as workers and businesses in the Industrial Park. The president emphasized that, although the work falls under the jurisdiction of the Government of the Canary Islands, the Cabildo took on the project in 2024 to expedite its execution and financing.
The island's councillor for Mobility explained that the works focused on the Arafo links and were carried out in phases. The first phase was completed last year, and the results are already visible, with less congestion, greater safety, and more agile commutes for the 70,000 vehicles that pass through daily, including 5,000 trucks and heavy vehicles.
The intervention includes the creation of new direct lanes and the expansion and reconfiguration of the access roundabouts to the Industrial Park. These measures have unblocked one of the island's main traffic bottlenecks, facilitating access to this industrial complex that houses 300 companies.

"What was once a complete collapse, with constant incidents in transport and schedules, has been urgently and efficiently resolved thanks to the collaboration between administrations."

The deputy minister of Infrastructure of the Government of the Canary Islands highlighted that the work was executed in record time and will quickly pay for itself, preparing the area for a future expansion of the industrial park that will bring economic development to the southern region. The mayors of Güímar and Arafo, along with the first deputy mayor of Candelaria, thanked the action, noting that it addresses a historical demand and improves mobility in a strategic enclave for Tenerife.
The work is integrated into the Tenerife Cabildo's Island Mobility Strategy, which aims to identify and act on critical traffic points. This strategy includes other interventions such as improvements to the accesses to El Médano and San Isidro, the development of Bus VAO lanes on the TF-1 and TF-5, and the third lane of Guamasa, in collaboration with the Government of the Canary Islands.
The works involved modifying the ramps and constructing two direct links to facilitate safer and more convenient entry and exit from the enclave, resolving traffic jams that affected industrial activity. Direct lanes have been created from the TF-281 towards the TF-1 in the South direction, from the TF-1 (Santa Cruz) towards the El Carretón Industrial Park, two lanes from the Valle de Güímar Industrial Park towards the TF-1 in the Santa Cruz direction, and one lane from the TF-1 in the South direction towards the Industrial Park.
