From 11:00 AM, the day will feature a cooking contest, showcookings, and tastings focused on the 'papa bonita' (beautiful potato), aiming to highlight this prized tuber. Starting at 7:00 PM, restaurants, wineries, and the Asociación La Papa Bonita will present their products, accompanied by musical performances by Los Salvapantallas, ‘Oye mi canto’, and DJ Nicky González.
The official presentation of the event was attended by the mayor of Los Realejos, Adolfo González; the Councilor for Tourism, José David Cabrera; the president of the Asociación de Cosecheros La Papa Bonita, Vicente Anatolio Luis Domínguez; chef Pedro Rodríguez Dios; and wine expert Belén López.
The morning activities will include the third edition of the ‘Cocina con Papa Bonita’ (Cook with Papa Bonita) contest, where four chefs will compete with dishes featuring the potato as the main ingredient, paired with wines from the Valle de La Orotava Designation of Origin. Following the jury's deliberation, the public will have the opportunity to taste some of these creations.
In the afternoon, initiatives such as ‘Guardianes de la papa bonita’ (Guardians of the Papa Bonita), a conversation and tasting led by farmers from the Sociedad Cooperativa Agrícola Icod de los Trigos, will take place. Chef Diana Marcelino Bermúdez will offer a showcooking of 'papa bonita' gnocchi, and the Asociación La Papa Bonita will conduct the workshop ‘Locura de tostón. Escachando bonitas’.
Other offerings include the family gathering ‘¡Chacho, frena el tenedor!’ (Hey, stop the fork!) by Slow Food CanariasBiodiversa, the talk ‘Papas bonitas de altura. Tesoros bajo tierra’ (High-altitude beautiful potatoes. Underground treasures) with Pedro Rodríguez Dios and Belén López González, and a tasting of tuna and octopus with 'papas arrugadas' (wrinkled potatoes) presented by the Guachinche Las Galanas.
The ‘Gran Fiesta de Vinos y Papas de Los Realejos’ (Great Festival of Wines and Potatoes of Los Realejos) will commence around 7:00 PM and continue until the early morning hours, featuring stands from wineries of the Valle de La Orotava and various dining establishments.
