A recent study reveals that five Canary Islands companies have achieved the milestone of being centenarians, representing 1.5% of the 350 existing in Spain.

The Canary archipelago is home to five companies that have surpassed a century of existence, a feat that places the islands at 1.5% of the total centenarian companies in Spain, which amounts to 350. Of these five firms, three are classified as large enterprises, while the remaining two are micro-enterprises.
The oldest company is Litografía Romero SL, founded in 1880 in Arafo (Tenerife), with 146 years of history in the graphic arts sector and classified as a large company.
Following is Compañía Trasmediterránea Sa, active since 1916 in maritime passenger transport. After a change of domicile, this large company joins the list of centenarian Canary firms.
Another large company in the maritime transport sector is Agencia Schembri SA, a subsidiary of Grupo Trasmediterránea, which was founded in 1924.
The two centenarian micro-enterprises were founded in the same year, 1919. Islanza SL, dedicated to construction and located in Tías (Lanzarote), and Ablabat Canarias SL, focused on land development and urban planning in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
Nationally, Catalonia leads in the number of centenarian companies with 30.5%, followed by Madrid (20%) and the Basque Country (9%). The 350 centenarian Spanish companies represent just 0.03% of the total active companies in the country.
