The cultural project LÓperArs presents the first installment of the scenic trilogy 'Memorias de Tamarán' in Arucas. The inaugural play, titled 'La Memoria del Volcán', will be shown on June 12 and 14 at the Casa Gurié - Arucas Municipal Museum, with performances at 8:00 PM and 9:00 PM. This proposal aims to explore the island's identity through music, dance, theater, and historical heritage.
Born as a natural evolution of a previous LÓperArs project focused on the history of Gran Canaria, 'Memorias de Tamarán' consolidates an artistic line that fuses the territory with the performing arts. The subsequent performances of the trilogy will be 'Ecos de los Reyes' and 'La Isla Rota'.
Artistic direction is led by Mario Méndez, with Nauzet Mederos heading musical direction and piano. The production offers a contemporary look at the island's heritage, aiming for a sensory and emotional experience that encourages reflection on the island's present and future.
“"There is a great disconnect between these artistic expressions and the public, even within the traditional opera-going audience. It's not enough to create accessibility; we must awaken curiosity and build community."
Mario Méndez, with experience in venues such as the Teatro Real and Palau de Les Arts, advocates for bringing "cultured arts" to new audiences by taking them out of conventional spaces. He emphasizes the coexistence of different disciplines like opera, musical theater, dance, and folklore.
At the presentation, the mayor of Arucas, Juan Jesús Facundo, highlighted the municipal museum's role as a center for cultural outreach, stating that the council will always support proposals that foster music, theater, and dance. Meanwhile, Carlos González, Councilor for Culture, emphasized the accessibility of quality art for all citizens.
The trilogy will feature prominent Canarian artists and Spanish sopranos, along with over 30 high-fashion scenic designs. The project will continue in Agüimes with 'Ecos de los Reyes' (October 30 and 31) and conclude at the CICCA with 'La Isla Rota' (November 25 and 26), offering reflections on island identity and environment.
