The Local Police of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria arrested two men early Sunday morning after a pursuit on the Carretera General del Norte, which led to the seizure of narcotics and multiple traffic violations.

The incident began around two in the morning when officers spotted a vehicle speeding towards the upper part of the city. Despite the police vehicles' flashing lights and sirens, the occupants ignored them and fled at high speed.
The chase extended through several streets, including Doctor Marañón, Santa Juana de Castilla, Sargento Provisional, and Guillermo Santana Rivero Avenue, where the vehicle was finally intercepted. During the escape, the individuals ran two red lights.
Following the stop, the occupants were identified and searched. Officers found a precision scale, a package containing nearly 18 grams of a white substance, believed to be cocaine, and plastic bags, suggesting potential preparation for sale. Two mobile phones were also found, one of which was not claimed by either detainee.
In the car's trunk, a farming hoe was discovered, which the driver claimed to carry for self-defense. The driver, who tested negative for alcohol, tested positive for cocaine and benzodiazepines in the drug test. He was arrested for alleged serious disobedience, a crime against road safety, and a crime against public health. His companion was arrested for an alleged crime against public health.
Additionally, three citations were issued against the driver for lacking mandatory insurance, not having passed the ITV (vehicle inspection), and driving with a municipal license that did not authorize him to operate a car. The vehicle was impounded.
