The vessel Happy Dynamic, transporting these imposing structures from Poland, will dock at León y Castillo Pier. The unloading of the cranes, each weighing approximately 150 tons, will require several days of work and the involvement of specialized personnel, including eight stevedores.
The unloading maneuver demands high precision. It involves securing the vessel's mooring, leveling the deck with the pier using a ballast system, and subsequently unfastening the cranes to hoist them with the ship's own cranes. This operation can be observed from the Avenida Marítima, near Las Alcaravaneras beach.
“"This work must be done slowly and with great precision, so the entire operation is estimated to last between three and four days."
These four cranes are part of a package of eight units acquired by the operator Opcsa for 20 million euros, with the goal of renewing the terminal's outdated machinery. The remaining four cranes are expected to arrive in May, and all are anticipated to be operational by early summer.
The new equipment is hybrid, which will allow for fuel savings of up to 40%, reducing both operating costs and polluting emissions. Furthermore, their rubber-tired design improves maneuverability, and they feature anti-sway systems and advanced automation to optimize precision in port operations.
With this modernization, Opcsa aims to increase its capacity to handle growing container traffic and service the large, latest-generation container ships, which carry between 20,000 and 24,000 TEU and whose presence has become common at the terminal.
