The Department of Street Cleaning and Waste Collection of the Telde City Council has budgeted over 100,000 euros for 2026 to repair and replace containers damaged by vandalism, particularly arson.

So far this year, a total of 64 containers have been burned in various parts of the municipality, with the latest incident occurring in the early hours of August 30. The damage has affected containers of different capacities and collection systems, requiring the mobilization of municipal resources for their removal, repair, or replacement and subsequent service restoration.
The councilor responsible for the area, María Calderín, lamented that the City Council must bear this extraordinary expense to recover elements that are part of the public waste collection service. "Every time an act of vandalism occurs that requires replacing a container, we have to incur an additional cost that directly impacts public resources," she stated.
Calderín highlighted that these financial resources "could be allocated to other service improvement initiatives," and stressed that the consequences of these acts are not limited to economic cost. "The teams have to modify their planning, make displacements, and dedicate working hours and material resources to solve this damage, instead of allocating them to planned tasks," she explained.
The municipal official called for the collaboration and civic-mindedness of citizens to help preserve the facilities intended for public services. In this regard, she recalled that acts of vandalism against containers "not only generate economic damage to the municipal coffers but also disrupt the daily planning of the service and affect the normal functioning of waste collection."
The Department of Street Cleaning and Waste Collection will continue working to ensure the replacement of affected containers and maintain the service under the best possible conditions, while also emphasizing the importance of responsible use of municipal equipment.
